Some of the most awe-inspiring scenery in the Blue Mountains is to be found near the pretty resort town of Blackheath - the highest town in the mountains.
The nearby Govetts Leap and Evans Lookout offer breathtaking views of the Grose Valley and the Bridal Veil Falls which plunges in a milk white column of water, 190 metres to the valley floor making it the longest single-drop fall in the mountains.
For a brief period it was known as 'Hounslow' - "it having rather a wild heath-like appearance, I have named it Houslow" so wrote Governor Macquarie in his journal after camping in the area on his journey from Sydney to inspect the site of Bathurst in 1815.
