Skin cancer has reached epidemic proportions in Australia.
Currently one in two Australians will develop the disease at some stage during their lives.  There are three reasons why our levels of skin cancers are so high; our mainly fair skinned population; Australia's harsh climate and our love for the great outdoors.
Sunburn is not the only cause of skin cancer.

Tanning or just too much sun, year after year, can also lead to people developing the disease.

NSW Cancer Council statistics show melanoma to be the most common cancer in males aged 25 to 54
On average, 740,000 new cases of skin cancer are diagnosed in Australia every year.

Ninety five per cent (95%) of people who get skin cancer are treated successfully, as skin cancer can almost always be cured if detected early.

Having olive skin does not make you immune to skin cancer, Aborigines can get skin cancer.
